COURSE DESCRIPTION
In this class, you will be examining the visual elements and principles of design that artists use to create the illusion of three dimensions on a flat, two-dimensional surface with various media. You will also learn to execute projects from preliminary sketches to finished product and develop skills in evaluating and communicating about your work and the work of others.
ATTENDANCE
Regular attendance is required . Our studio time is very important in learning and practicing design concepts. Zero classes missed will raise your final grade by 10%. 12 classes missed= automatic failure* Please be prepared for each class; do not expect to borrow materials from other students or myself. If you do miss class, refer to the website calendar for in-class and homework assignments. You are responsible for what was covered in class.
GRADING
In-class assignments and homework assignments will be “checked”( /+ =95, / =80, /- =65). The “checked” assignments will be averaged for a Project Grade. You will present a Final Project on the last day of class. Your Final Grade will be the average of the 5 Project Grades and your Final Project grade. You will be graded on the following: the amount of work and time that you apply to each project, the handling of the medium and materials, neatness, presentation, creativity, and your ability to follow directions. You may rework and resubmit assignments once for a better grade. Just because an assignment was resubmitted does not guarantee that it will receive a higher grade. All resubmitted assignments are due by 12.05.06.
(What the letters REALLY mean: A= Excellent, B= Above Average, C= Average, D= Below Average, F= Failure)
You will have a chance to get an A if you; come to every class, come to class on time, come to class prepared, work on the assigned project during class and stay the entire class, hand in each assignment, hand in each assignment completed to the best of your ability, hand in each assignment on the day it is due, resubmit any assignment that does not receive a /+ on the first attempt, turn in a final project, draw/paste in your sketch book daily, participate in class discussions and field trips, obey book club rules and smile.
Sketch Book: Draw or glue something in your sketchbook everyday! I will check these randomly, so bring it with you every class!
Book Club: Bring in an Art book from the SUNY Cobleskill Library on the day your group in indicated on the class calendar. Participation= "checked" projects. Try to look at the books during class. Try to bring a book related to what we are doing in class (i.e. Texture= “ink drawing textures”).
